Message from the Dean |
| Another year, with some wonderful AGO events in store!
Greetings to each and all! As you will see in other areas below, one of our first priorities this year is to increase our membership. For that, we need your help to get lots of extra friends and prospective members out to the first meeting on September 12 at Reformation Lutheran. This get-together will be long on fellowship elements, and short on meeting business. Camaraderie will be our first goal - meeting one another and sharing a pot luck meal. (Please try to bring a dish you can share; but. if you can't, "not to worry!" It's not the price of admission!) At this gathering - besides all our extended AGO group - we'd like to see keyboard students, jr. high to college ages; organ enthusiasts of all ages; and church musicians and clergy from all over the City. We are widely broadcasting the invitation, but you can help by bringing a few in each category yourselves! After dinner, he brief "meeting" section will include: (1) a quick installation of officers, (2) presentation of the year's programs (a fine set indeed), (3) a "run-down" of membership advantages, (4) a short report from Marlene Hallstrom on the DC National Convention this past summer, and (5) some conversation about education (our second priority this year). Finally, more fun! From various donors (the quick ones still with us, and the dead of blessed memory), we have again amassed a large selection of used music which we will offer for sale to benefit the Wichita Chapter's Organ Scholarship Fund. Board member Nancy Martin has arranged the selection of organ, piano, and vocal music - classical, sacred, secular, and technical - with individual titles at 50˘ each and collections at $1. What fun, what bargains, and what a good cause! Plan to join us on September 12, and bring some friends! Carrol Hassman, Dean |

Membership |
| As the season begins, the Wichita Chapter is participating in National's "Race to Renew," and in the Phonathon program called "Revisit, Reconnect, and Rejoin!" Anna Jeter will be heading up the Phonathon calling, with the help of Margaret Dietz and her standing committee of callers. If you'd like to help with this effort, please contact Anna or Margaret at ajeter@pixius.net or whd9@juno.com respectively.
Our goal is to increase significantly the enrollment and participation of all facets of our membership: Regular members, Specials, Duals, Students, and Chapter Friends. If you qualify as any one of these, WE WANT YOU!! ...And, if you are contacted, please consider how much more we can do to benefit our "high calling" when we all work together! The Wichita Chapter's Registrar is Gary Huffman, who also serves as Treasurer. You may e-mail Gary for copies of the membership form at garyh_67218@yahoo.com. We need you, and the profession needs you! Revisit, Reconnect, and Rejoin!! |

Certification |
| The Wichita Chapter AGO is an examination center for all of the certification exams except the Fellowship exam (which exam we will help you find a place to take). This year we are mounting a concerted effort to encourage folk to take the Service Playing exam -- as a beginning.
This exam poses a simple set of tasks, ones most of us use almost every Sunday. Attaining certification will give you a rewarding sense of accomplishment, as it allows you also to polish your skills. Some of you might find it such an encouraging experience that you want to move on to the Colleague Exam next year! Region VI has a Support Group to help, and our local certification efforts will be led by our Board member, Sr. Nylas Moser. She will be happy to answer any questions you have. Call her at 316-942-2201, extension 1417; or email mosern@adorers.org. |
