Sequoia Chapter

Message from the Dean

Welcome to our webpage! Our community (Eureka, Arcata, McKinleyville, Fortuna, Trinidad) is on the beautiful North Coast of California, surrounded by redwood forest. Pipe organs in the area range from a one-manual Bosch tracker at Humboldt State University (Arcata) to a new Charles Kegg III/30 at Christ Episcopal Church (Eureka).

Our small chapter offers organ scholarships which pay for one half of the cost of 12 private lessons. Contact the Dean of the Chapter for application forms. Lessons are available for beginners to advanced levels, and some piano experience is preferred.

We welcome all communication from other organists and always welcome new members. You may join the Chapter at either the national level or as a Chapter Friend. Contact our Secretary/Treasurer for membership information.

Local Events

In 2008, the Sequoia Chapter gave a donation to Christ Episcopal Church (Eureka) to help establish a concert series featuring the new Kegg organ. The "Christ Church Concert Series" sponsors concerts and events throughout the year. Past guest artists have included Ken Cowan, James Welch, Alan Lewis, Fred Swann, and Chelsea Chen. For more information on the series, visit: http://www.christchurcheureka.org. The 2012 concert series will include the following events which take place at Christ Episcopal Church (15th & H Streets), Eureka, CA:

Wednesday, January 11, 2012, 7:30 pm: Organ concert by Christoph Bull, University Organist, UCLA.

Saturday, April 28, 2012, 7:30 pm: Annual Rhododendron Festival Concert.

Sunday, June 24, July 29, and August 26 - "Sundays at 4" - informal concerts at 4 pm on the last Sunday of the month

Wednesday, September 19, 2012, 7:30 pm: Organ concert by local organist, Douglas Moorehead, Organist, Christ Episcopal Church (Eureka, CA).

Sunday, December 9, 2012, 4:00 pm: Messiah Sing-Along.
