Message from the Dean |
| Dear Chapter Members,
Happy New Year to all, and...breathe a glorious sigh of relief after making it through all the Christmas music, coordinating with instrumentalists and singers, extra services (for those with a church job), and huge efforts on all our parts. Candle-lighting and beautiful musical repertoire remind ourselves of a close connection with God and of the spiritual aspects of our musical offerings. Hopefully we have had some time as well to relax and enjoy our friends and family. And surely there were near disasters as well: snowstorms to foul "our" carefully laid plans, finger injuries, water leaks precariously near the organ chambers, singer illnesses, unexpected musician absences, auto breakdowns, but somehow we pulled it all together with super-human strength and made it all work!! The Board is working on exciting plans for this year and next year. Please contact any one of us if you would like to be a part of planning or execution of any of our interesting projects. Wishing you well in this new decade! Susan |

The cornerstone of Mr. Tharp’s program will be Marcel Dupré’s Stations of the Cross. Friday, February 26, 8:00 pm Recital – Jeffrey Wood, Organ Jeffrey Wood is currently serving as Director of Music and Organist at Saint Mary Roman Catholic Church in Milford, Connecticut. His program will explore “Lent in Lübeck” through the music of the composers who lived and worked in one of Germany’s most cultivated cities. Friday, March 5, 8:00 pm Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Requiem In the midst of the Lenten season, the Cathedral presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's somber and ultimately transcendent "Requiem". Under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Douma, the Cathedral Choir and Soloists are joined by organist Dr. Ezequiel Menéndez and the renowned Arcadia Players in performing noted Mozart scholar Robert D. Levin's critical edition using period instruments. Friday, March 12, 8:00 pm Recital - Joseph Ripka, Organ Joseph Ripka has earned national and international recognition as one of today’s most promising young organ talents. Friday, March 19, 8:00 pm Recital – Julia Brown, Organ Julia Brown is currently Director of Music and Organist at First United Methodist Church in Eugene, Oregon as well as maintaining a full schedule of teaching, performing and recording.
