The Sixth- "Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ competition"-

will be held in the city of Kaliningrad, September 6-12,2009.
The first selection round will take place in Hamburg, Germany, May 11-15 'Worcester, Mass., June 27-30; and Moscow, August 28-September 2.
The competition, open to organists born no earlier than January 1,1973,will include the following prizes: first place, $5,000;second place,$3,000;third place,$2,000; two diplomas,$1,000 each; and a special prize,$1,000,for the best interpretation of Mikael Tariverdiev's music.
The deadline for the receipt of application forms is March 15 for Worsester and Hamburg, and April 15 for Moscow.

Organ Spectacular

Oct. 19, 2008 will be an international day of celebration, and a focal point of the 2008-09 International Year of the Organ Celebration.
We are encouraging all of our chapters, plus all of our partner organizations from throughout the world, to plan a concert or recital that day focusing on the organ.

Please check the Concordia Publishing website for information about the 1st prize winner¡¯s piece ¡°Ornament of Grace" (Available through this link) by Bernard Wayne Sanders. It will be available in May 2008. LIsten to this piece here

Please contact Paul Ayres (www.paulayres.co.uk) of Greenford, United Kingdom, for "Toccata Duo" for organ and trumpet, flute or violin. This piece is the 2nd place winner in the AGO Organ and Instrument Composition Competition.

Please contact Jon Naples of Carlsbad, CA, for "Reach for the Stars" for organ and oboe. This piece is the 3rd place winner in the AGO Organ and Instrument Composition Competition.

In addition, AGO National Council member David Vogels has commissioned a piece by the acclaimed American composer, Stephen Paulus, for this event. This work is now available at www.stephenpaulus.com for $12 for AGO members.

*AMERICAN GUILD OF ORGANISTS 2010 NATIONAL YOUNG ARTISTS
COMPETITION IN ORGAN PERFORMANCE*

For organists born between July 1,1977,and 1, 1987.

The Competieion takes place in one Application stage and three Performance Rounds.

The APPLICATION process calls for applicants to present themselves for consideration as competitors with a completed application package as outlined in the Official Rules, which will be published in "The American Organist", July 2008, and available for down- loading from the AGO Web site after that date.

One requirement of this application is a CD recording of a live, solo organ performance pesented after January 1, 2008, of a Bach work and a contrasting work composed after 1771.
the postmark deadline for applications is April 20, 2009.
