| FWAGO Cookbook Project—Deadline for Submissions: Oct. 1, 2008
Our long-time Registrar, Rob Ayotte OBM, will be remembered for many things, not the least of which was his chocolate cookies. Since there are a number of gourmet cooks in the chapter, it seems appropriate for FWAGO to create a cookbook in Rob’s honor and to include his recipe. Check out your favorite recipes and email them to Genie Sherer before Oct. 1. The target for publication is Dec. 1, so that copies will be available as Christmas gifts for $10 each. The person who comes up with the best name for the cookbook will receive two free copies. Halloween Rave – Oct. 26, 2008 at 5 pm Hosted by Jody Blaine Davis and the Congregational Church, 23 Park Street (God’s Little Acre), New Canaan CT. Admission is free, and the event is being co-sponsored by the church. As a way of introducing younger audiences to some of the many facets of organ music, FWAGO members will play several extremely scary selections, and there will be a costume parade with awards for best costumes in four categories: girls, boys, women, and men. Jody will lead us in singing several not-to-be-missed Pumpkin Carols with words by Charles Schultz, and we’ll have the opportunity to watch Buster Keaton’s great silent movie “The General” accompanied by live organ music! Music for Black History Month – Jan. 3, 2009 at 6:30 pm Hosted by Caesar Storlazzi and the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 145 Post Road East, Westport CT. A Pot-Luck dinner, including featured selections from our new (and as yet untitled) cookbook, will be followed by a member-led choral reading session featuring Spirituals, Gospel music and music by African American composers. Since some of the music is in public domain, you will go home with pieces that you can use immediately. Recent publications by Oxford and GIA will also be on display. Chapter Student Competition – March 23, 2009 Coordinated by Stephen Roberts Hosted by Edwin Taylor and the First Congregational Church, 103 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT Time TBA “I Survived Holy Week” Lunch and Learn – April 19, 2009 (Low Sunday) at 1:30 Hosted by our Dean, Alma Hamilton and St. Leo Roman Catholic Church, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford CT. All members in good standing are invited as guests of the chapter for lunch and a choice of “low-key” sessions dealing with professional skills topics including “Finale and Sibelius Fast-Tracked.” Feel free to suggest a topic that interests you, and we’ll try to find a leader. Annual Meeting – June 21, 2009 at 6:30 pm Hosted by Vince Edwards and St. Paul's on the Green, 60 East Avenue, Norwalk CT Details, TBA |
