Certification

The Cherine Troxel Organ Scholarship Competition

Cherine Troxel was an early member of the Cimarron Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. She had served for a number of years as organist at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Stillwater, meeting her responsibilities until her death from cancer.

Each spring the Cimarron Chapter of AGO sponsors a competition named in honor of Cherine Troxel. A first-place winner and a second-place winner each receive a monetary award taken from a fund which has been maintained primarily by Vernon "Pete" Troxel.

The Cherine Troxel Organ Scholarship Competition is open to organ students of this vicinity who have had no more than four years of college-level organ study. Each student plays two pieces, one pre-1800 and the other post-1800.

This year's competition will be held March 27, 2004, at the First Presbyterian in Stillwater. For additional information, contact the Dean of our chapter, Sue Hines Popham.
