Message from the Dean |
| Welcome to the Arrowhead Chapter American Guild of Organists! Our chapter serves members from the Arrowhead region of Minnesota (northeastern Minnesota) and northwestern Wisconsin. We strive to bring together our members from this rather large geographic region for fellowship, recitals, concerts, workshops and other educational opportunities. We also sponsor a weekly, noon-time Lenten Recital Series featuring chapter members in recital at various organs in the area. And, this past year, we began a scholarship program for youth who wish to study the organ. (See the “Certification” section below for more information.)
Please contact me if you have questions about our chapter. My email address is veldagb@hotmail.com and my phone number is (218) 724-5492. Velda Graham Bell Dean, Arrowhead Chapter AGO |

| ARROWHEAD CHAPTER ORGAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND
A scholarship fund has been established by the Arrowhead Chapter of the American Guild of Organists encouraging the development of young organists. Scholarships are awarded each spring and are funded through Chapter events such as the Lenten Organ Recital Series, used organ book sales, and donations. The scholarship(s) will cover the cost of private lessons and other items related to those lessons, such as organ shoes and music. We are excited to report that REBECCA BILDEN and JACE JORDAN have been awarded organ scholarships for the 2011-2012 school year. The students were chosen on the basis of auditions held in August; also taken into consideration were recommendations from teachers and a personal statement of interest from the student. Rebecca Bilden is a 14-year-old student at Marshall School who studies piano with Dr. Kate Lanzer and flute with Dr. Lorie Scott. She is enthusiastic about learning to play the organ as both of her grandmothers play the organ and she would like to “continue the tradition of playing music for people during some of the most important moments of their lives.” Rebecca will be studying organ with Dr. Norma Stevlingson. Jace Jordan is a 12-year-old student at Northshore Community School. He has studied both piano and organ with his teacher Lois Foltz and cello with David R. Lewis. In Jace’s words: “I think the organ is a very cool instrument and I want to learn to play it better. I would like to be an organ player at a church someday.” Jace will be studying organ with Carol Donahue. For more information about the Arrowhead Chapter Scholarship Fund, please contact Carol Donahue at (218) 727-5021 or mpcmdonahue@aol.com. |
