+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ From the Dean Our Chapter ended the season on May 18th with a wonderful dinner and service of installation of officers at Trinity United Methodist Church in Bradenton. Our thanks are extended to hosts Bob Parrish and Jim Hawkinson. Jim also played and planned the meaningful worship service in the church sanctuary. We also want to thank Chaplain Read Heydt and Rev. Rosenberg for their participation, and Kathy Hicks, the church hostess and her staff for the delicious dinner. The gathering was a great time of celebrating all that we have done this year and looking forward to a thrilling line up of programs and regional convention next season. Be sure to save the dates for next fall in your calendars: Monday, September 21 - Opening Dinner at First Presbyterian Church in Sarasota Sunday, October 18 - Handel Organ Concerto Spectacular Sunday, November 8 - Choral Festival of Psalms and Hymns with Dr. Marilyn Kaiser Saturday, November 7 - Combined choral rehearsal at Christ Church in Bradenton As church musicians, we now enter into the slower pace of the summer months in Florida. I hope that each of you will find time to celebrate the untold creative accomplishments of the past season. There is much to be thankful for within each demanding year. Now is the time for a hiatus. A time for refreshment. Our creative ‘wells of service’ have been emptied and now is the time to refill them. May we use this less-busy time to rest, read, and re-evaluate what is really important in our lives. Perhaps the summer offers opportunities to travel, go to a workshop, practice and learn some new organ music, or get a head start on planning next year. Perhaps we will find opportunities to do something new that will challenge our skills or cause us to lighten up and laugh at ourselves, but most of all, allow us to rediscover our excitement, enthusiasm, and energy for making inspired music. Greg +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Psalms and Palms Update… From Roy Roberts & Jack Levick www.psalmsandpalms.org "Now is the month of maying. Tra-la-la-la-la." as the old song goes. The month of May brings many items to our chapter. In June, up to nine competitors will perform at Christ Episcopal Church, Bradenton, for the regional RYCO (Regional Competition for Young Organists). This is the first of many events which are part of our chapter's hosting the regional convention. We wish all the competitors the best. Many big thanks go to Dick Benedum, the staff, and the congregation of Christ Church for assisting us to make this competition happen. We could not do this without their help. Now is the time to 1) Register! Registering early is the ONLY way to make sure you are able to attend the workshop(s) you desire. 2) Volunteer! Please complete the sign-up form at the bottom of this newsletter and send it in. You will be able to meet many, if not all, of the people attending the convention. Additionally, you will know that you helped to bring about the success of this convention. 3) Donate! It is not too late to take advantage of the tax breaks by donating to the convention. Donations are another way that one is able to help to bring about the success of the convention. If for some reason you are not able to attend the convention, please consider donating that amount. Every donation helps our Chapter to achieve not only a programming success, but a financial success as well. Lastly, your Steering Committee has been administrating and doing the chapter's work for more than 2 years; this includes planning, financing, investigating bid proposals, re-planning, refinancing, and much more to bring about the work of the Guild through our Chapter. Our Chapter has been given neither greater responsibility nor a greater reward than to host its Regional Convention. Please consider the above three points and help your Chapter colleagues and friends to accomplish what is its greatest role to date. Looking ahead to the fall, our opening dinner will be on Monday, September 21st at 6:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Sarasota. Please mark this date on your calendar and plan on attending. More details about this and the other programs for 2009-2010 will be published in the September issue of the Montre. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ There will be NO July or August Montre published. Please submit your events, articles and other information for the September issue to music@pineshorespres.org by the 15th of August to be included in the September issue. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Deadline Reminder Deadline for submission of items to be included in the Montre is the 20th of the month. Most efficient method of submission is via email to our editor, Rick Holdsworth, at music@pineshorespres.org. |
