Newsletter
Pipeline is the monthly newsletter of the Rockford Chapter of the AGO, which is available to members and friends of the Chapter. The following are highlights from the current issue.

Annual Banquet and Meeting

Nominees for the AGO Executive Committee for 2009-2010:
Dean – Trish Rooney (2-year term)
Sub-dean – Kathy Fane (1-year term)
Secretary – Greg Gyllsdorff (1-year term)
Treasurer – Tim Anderson (1-year term)
Member-at-large – Delphine Poellot (3-year term)

Continuing as members-at-large are John Grune (one more year) and Ron Anderson (two more years).

The election of officers will be at the annual banquet and meeting on May 18 at Sam’s Ristorante, 6075 E. Riverside in Rockford. Social Gathering at 6:00pm, dinner at 6:30pm. Entertainment by the Dixieland Docs, a group of doctors at SwedishAmerican who are known for their excellent performance of Dixieland music. The cost is $20 per person.

NOTE: The deadline for reservations is May 9.

Registration and Dues for 2009-2010

Your registration/renewal form is enclosed with the paper version of this newsletter. The actual increase for a regular voting member is actually only $4. Due to a clerical error on last year’s form, the dues were listed as $80, although that figure (which we are given by the national AGO) should have been $88.

Fox Valley POE

Our neighboring Fox Valley Chapter of the AGO is sponsoring a Pipe Organ Encounter June 14-19, 2009 in Wheaton, IL. This event is for young people ages 13-18 who have some piano proficiency. This is a wonderful opportunity for young people to have opportunities to play and hear several pipe organs and meet other young people with this common interest. Chapter Financial Policies

The following financial policies were adopted at the May meeting of the Rockford AGO Executive Committee.

  1. All expenditures over $75 require board approval. Expenditures of more than $75 undertaken by members on behalf of the organization without the prior express approval of the Executive Board may or may not be reimbursed in full. Thus, members who spend more than $75 without board approval should not expect to be reimbursed for any amount over $75.
  2. Budgets for large events like the annual Youth Choir Festival, the annual banquet, and special programs (such as Pedals, Pipes, and Pizza) should be submitted to the board for approval prior to the event. The designated chair of the event will be the person responsible for submitting the budget and procuring board approval prior to the event.
  3. As per the Chapter Operating Procedures, the Treasurer is the board officer responsible for all financial matters concerning the chapter. Thus, all funds related to events sponsored solely by the Chapter (e.g., Youth Choir Festival, PipeSpectacular, annual banquet) shall be collected directly by the Treasurer or a board-approved designee. Likewise, all receipts from expenditures requiring reimbursement must be submitted to the Treasurer. No reimbursement will be made without proper documentation.

Congregation is seeking organist to regularly play at their Sunday morning 9:00am worship service. Duties include playing for at least two Sunday a.m. services per month (third Sunday of month is covered by our Praise Band), using the hymns and liturgy of Lutheran Service Book. Except on Praise Band Sundays, the congregation regularly uses Divine Service, Setting III and Matins. Negotiable could be additional duties (provided the candidate has the skills and experience) to work with our choir director, our Bell Choir, or work with a children’s choir. Notice Informing Membership of Outcome of Case

The National Council has determined that a position at Holy Family Catholic Church in Rockford, IL, was made vacant by wrongful termination of a member of the American Guild of Organists on June 17, 2003.

In keeping with the AGO Code of Ethics, members shall not seek or accept employment or attempt to place a student or colleague in the position until the National Council has declared that differences between the Guild and Holy Family Catholic Church in Rockford, IL have been resolved.
