REGION VI NEWS
From Jeff Verkuilen, AAGO, Region VI Education Coordinator

THE WICHITA 2009 REGIONAL CONVENTION
Mark your 2009 calendars now to attend the Wichita Region VI Convention, "Pipes on the Plains", June 15-18, 2009. Our friends in Wichita are working diligently to provide to us a wonderful convention experience. See the convention’s website at: www.pipesontheplains09.org

Besides the great experience of meeting wonderful people and attending excellent music programs and enlightening workshops, I very much enjoy the opportunity to visit cities that I otherwise might never have the opportunity to visit. This will be my first time visiting Wichita. One of the venues I especially look forward to visiting is the Century II Theatre. Since my high school years, I have owned a recording of Virgil Fox playing the theatre’s Wurltizer organ. Programs such as these, coupled always with some very pleasant program surprises, informative and interesting workshops, and the opportunity to share and socialize with our colleagues, make AGO conventions wonderful opportunities to experience and enjoy. I have always returned home inspired and refreshed, a better person for having attended.

Sometimes, our schedules don’t work out to attend our own region’s convention, but another one may work for you. Always consider this option and be inspired by our colleagues in other regions. The other 2009 conventions are:
•Regions I and II, Boston (MA) Chapter, July 1-4
•Region III, Tidewater Chapter (Norfolk, VA area), July 5-8
•Region V, Detroit (MI) Chapter, June 28 – July 1
•Region VII, Albuquerque (NM) Chapter, June 28 – July 1
•Region VIII, Seattle (WA) Chapter, June 28 – July 1
•Region IX, Phoenix (AZ) Chapter, June 22-25
•Region IV, Sarasota/Manatee Chapter (Sarasota, FL), Mid-Winter Conclave, January 17-20, 2010

If you plan well in advance, consider attending these national conventions (they have big shoes to fill after this year’s Twin Cities’ wonderful convention!):
•AGO 2010 National Convention, Washington, D.C., July 4-8
•AGO 2012 National Convention, Nashville (TN), July 1-6
•AGO 2014 National Convention, Salt Lake City (UT), dates to be determined

Finally, congratulations are in order to the Central Iowa Chapter for agreeing to host Region VI’s 2011 Convention in Des Moines!

Membership

You don't have to be an active organist or choirmaster to join the Guild. In fact, you don't have to be a professional church musician at all. Membership in the Guild is open to all, and the only real requirement is an interest in the organ and/or sacred choral music. To become a member of the Colorado Springs Chapter, contact any Chapter officer. See below for contact information.

Placement

Employers and job seekers are invited to post and search listings of available positions on the Guild's National Website.
