Message from the Dean

I would like to thank Courtney Boyd, Carolyn Curtis, and Martha Ware for serving three years on the executive board. I would also like to thank Eleanor Brooks for serving 7 years as registrar. She needs some time off to spend with her husband who is having health issues. That being said I would like to welcome our new executive board members Jennie Adams, Joy Fenton and Shawn Moreweck and our new registrar, Joyce Drotos. I look forward to working with you during the 2009-2010 year.

I also want to include the AGO mission statement (page 6) for us to think about this summer as we are planning next year’s programs and renewing our memberships that maybe we can do more to fulfill our mission.

If you are not in a leadership position, some ways you could help are: recruit friends or colleagues to join as members, volunteer to host or coordinate one program, serve on the scholarship committee, volunteer to make phone calls to remind members about programs, or simply make a resolution to attend more programs than you did last year.

COMING TO AKRON, OCTOBER 9

French organist Olivier Latry is considered one of the most notable organists of his generation, not only in France, but on the international scene, too. He was born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, in 1962 where he began his musical studies. He later attended the Academy of Music at St. Maur-des-Fossés, studying organ with Gaston Litaize. He performs at Trinity Lutheran Church this Fall.

Who is Donald Busarow?

DR. DONALD BUSAROW is University organist at Wittenberg University, in Springfield, Ohio, and Director of the Wittenberg Choir. He is also one of the finest Hymn Festival Artists in the country today.

He is also a noted composer of church music and a concert organist, having published more than 50 choral works, including several wedding solos, 100 compositions for the organ, and four volumes of works for organ and instruments.

COMING TO AKRON, NOVEMBER 1

He will lead an All-Saint’s Day Hymn Festival, at Fairlawn Lutheran Church, co-sponsored by the Akron AGO Chapter and the FLC Parish Arts Series. Choir directors can obtain the three anthems (which will be performed) for their choir members who wish to participate in the Festival Choir.
